- Book 9 of 9: Embedded Systems Engineering Library
Have you ever built a simple blinking LED project and wondered how engineers transform that into a secure, reliable connected product used in the real world?
You're not alone. Many embedded systems resources stop at basic examples, leaving you to figure out complex topics like multitasking, networking, security, power optimization, and large-scale deployment on your own. The leap from hobby projects to production-ready firmware is significant and this book is designed to bridge that gap.
Professional Embedded Systems Programming is a practical, end-to-end guide for developers, engineers, students, and technology professionals who want to design, build, and deploy robust embedded and IoT systems with confidence. Whether you're developing a smart sensor, an industrial controller, a wearable device, or a battery-powered IoT product, this book provides the knowledge and hands-on techniques needed to create reliable firmware for real-world applications.
Inside this book, you'll learn how to:
- Master Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) — Understand task scheduling, priorities, synchronization, queues, semaphores, timers, and concurrency patterns for building responsive and dependable applications.
- Develop Reliable Networked Devices — Implement Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), mesh networking, and communication protocols such as MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS, and WebSocket for stable, efficient connectivity.
- Build Security into Every Layer — Protect your devices with secure boot, flash encryption, mutual TLS, certificate management, authentication, and secure communication practices used in modern embedded systems.
- Optimize for Ultra-Low Power — Learn practical techniques for reducing energy consumption through sleep modes, peripheral optimization, clock management, and battery-aware system design that extends device lifespan.
- Deploy Safe Over-the-Air Updates — Design firmware update systems with digital signing, staged deployments, rollback protection, and recovery mechanisms that minimize downtime and reduce deployment risk.
- Prepare Products for Manufacturing — Explore factory provisioning, production testing, hardware validation, diagnostics, quality assurance, and certification considerations essential for commercial deployment.
Beyond individual topics, this book demonstrates how every design decision influences the reliability, security, performance, and maintainability of an embedded system. Through carefully explained examples, practical code, architectural discussions, and real-world case studies, you'll gain the confidence to make informed engineering decisions from the earliest design stages to final deployment.
Each chapter builds logically on the previous one, guiding you from core embedded programming concepts to advanced subjects such as custom driver development, cloud integration, debugging long-running systems, performance optimization, and production-ready firmware architecture. The techniques presented are practical, field-tested, and immediately applicable to your own projects.
Whether you're an aspiring embedded developer, an experienced software engineer moving into firmware development, or a professional looking to strengthen your embedded systems expertise, this book will help you build devices that are secure, efficient, scalable, and dependable.
Stop relying on trial and error. Start building embedded systems with the confidence, discipline, and professional practices used by experienced firmware engineers.
Your next embedded product deserves to be engineered for success. Start building it the right way today.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
