56pp, disbound, lightly toned and foxed. Good+. This item was first published in Albany in 1825 under a slightly different title. Tibbits argues that there should be no conflict in economic policy between agricultural and manufacturing interests. "Agriculture is greatly assisted, benefited, and extended by manufactures." Thus tariffs, though designed to protect infant American industries "against the cupidity and aggressions of foreigners," also improve the position of farmers. The "prejudice" against manufactures displayed by "the southern, or tobacco, cotton, and sugar-growing states," is unwarranted and unreasonable. Tibbits boldly attacks Adam Smith, Ricardo, and Say: "Ah, Dr. Smith, had the English legislature followed your advice.they would never have had the overwhelming capital, the irresistible means of production, the unparalleled national strength which they now possess."
