Item description from seller
12mo. 6 x 4 inches. 108pp. In the original half cloth over marbled boards. Spine rubbed at edges with some fraying of the fabric. Ownership inscriptions on front endpapers, East Dixfield, Maine. Front endpapers stained. Leaves clean but with foxing throughout. Good. First published in Boston by Bartholomew Green in 1710 as "Bonifacius. An essay upon the good" (Green published the first newspaper in America). It was revised and edited by George Burder (1752-1832), in 1808. The book offered here is the abridgement of Burder's version, including an unsigned abridged preface. In the preface, Burder writes of a letter Benjamin Franklin wrote to Cotton Mather's son in 1779, telling him how much this book meant to him and that it had a great influence on his life.
