Keeping poison dart frogs successfully is less about having an impressive vivarium and more about learning how to make good decisions before, during, and after the frogs arrive.
The most rewarding dart frog setups are rarely the result of guesswork. They come from choosing appropriate animals, preparing the habitat carefully, understanding what the enclosure is telling you, and establishing routines that remain manageable month after month.
THE ESSENTIAL POISON DART FROG KEEPER’S HANDBOOK is built for exactly that purpose.
Instead of treating dart frog keeping as a list of equipment to buy, this handbook takes you through the practical reasoning behind successful captive care. You will learn what to consider before purchasing your first frogs, how to prepare their environment, how to maintain dependable feeding and humidity routines, and how to recognize changes that may signal that something in the habitat needs attention.
Inside, you'll discover how to:
• Evaluate your readiness before bringing dart frogs home, including the equipment, time, and daily commitment involved
• Choose healthy animals and assess their condition, activity, appearance, and behavior before purchase
• Plan a functional enclosure around the needs of the frogs rather than simply its appearance
• Build a planted habitat that provides appropriate cover, usable surfaces, moisture, and environmental stability
• Establish feeding routines around suitable small live prey and understand the role of supplementation
• Manage humidity without creating a stagnant, poorly ventilated enclosure
• Observe your frogs closely enough to distinguish normal behavior from changes worth investigating
• Keep the habitat clean and functional while preserving the stability of its living environment
• Anticipate common keeper mistakes before they become recurring husbandry problems
• Create straightforward daily and weekly routines that make responsible care sustainable
• Approach long-term dart frog ownership with greater confidence, consistency, and attention to detail
A dart frog enclosure is a living system. Conditions can shift gradually, feeders can be overlooked, moisture can become excessive or insufficient, and seemingly minor changes in a frog's behavior can provide useful clues. Good keeping comes from noticing those changes and understanding what they mean.
Whether you're preparing your first habitat, considering which frogs to purchase, or already keeping dart frogs and want to tighten up your routine, this handbook gives you a practical framework for making better husbandry decisions.
Your frogs depend on the environment you create every day. Learn how to build that environment thoughtfully, maintain it consistently, and become the kind of keeper who notices the small things before they become big problems.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book.
