Obra baseada em pesquisas antropológicas, realizadas entre 1936 e 1938, que descreve e analisa pormenorizadamente a cultura material e social, a religião, as danças, os jogos e os aspectos psicológicos das crianças dos Belos, um grande reino que ocupava o centro da ilha de Timor, ficando uma parte no lado Holandês da Ilha e outra parte no lado Português sendo a sua língua o tétum, ainda hoje uma das línguas oficiais de Timor Leste. Exemplar pouco comum de uma obra de elevada qualidade, com grande riqueza de informação e muito importante para o estudo e conhecimento dos povos do Timor português, país independente desde 2002. Bernard Andreas Gregorius Vroklage, (Oldemarkt 1897 ? Nijmegen 1951) sacerdote da Congregação do Verbo Divino, estudou teologia sistemática em Roma e Antropologia na Universidade de Viena, onde em 1933 apresentou a dissertação sobre as relações sociais no Bornéu. Em 1938 tornou-se professor no Seminário de Teteringuen e em 1948 passou a ser professor na Universidade Católica de Nijmegen. 1st and 2nd volumes with 26x18 cm; 3rd volume with 33x26cm. xii, 688 + [vi], 228 + [vi], cvi pp. Soft cover. It includes musical notations and tables with the names of the observed family members. This work is based on the anthropological research performed between 1936 and 1938 and describes and analyses in detail several aspects of the life of the Belos people, namely the material and social culture, religion, dances and also the games and the psychological issues of the children. The Belos kingdom was located in the centre of the Timor Island, part in the Dutch side and part in the Portuguese side. Their language was the Tetum, which is still today one of the official languages in East Timor. A rare copy of a high quality work, with valuable information and very important for the study and knowledge of the people in the Portuguese Timor, which became an independent country in 2002. Bernard Andreas Gregorius Vroklage, (Oldemarkt 1897 ? Nijmegen 1951), priest of the Divine Word Congregation, studied systematic theology in Rome and Anthropology at the Vienna University, where he presented his thesis on the Borneo?s social relationships.
