Blue and white cloth binding. viii+473, ills. to 2 chapters numbered by chapter + one other; prev. owner's small gilt label top front pastedown, Foyles sticker lower same, 1964-dated sig. top facing endpaper, numerous, but intermittent marginalia, mostly short blue lines or ticks, some brief comments and some pencil comments by different owner (me alas), these quite tolerable I think and did not spot any underlining. An important multidisciplinary collection marking the centenary of of the publication of Darwin's Origin of Species, contributors inc. Louis Leakey, Kroeber, Borde, Magoun, Hilgard, Piggott, Washburn, Hallowell and Braidwood among others, 22 in all. Provides an excellent overview of the state of the topic at the time, just before discovery of Lucy and DNA dating of human-ape divergence. Apparently uncommon in UK.
