The book provides in-depth, authoritative coverage of every aspect of the specialty, including the otologic history and physical examination of the ear, the radiologic evaluation of temporal bone disorders, the audiologic tests in current use, and the diagnosis and management of all disorders affecting the ear, vestibular system, temporal bone, and facial nerve. Over 800 illustrations complement the text.

This book is an overview of today's knowledge of all topics concerning otology, written by a group of recognized authorities. Basic science, diagnostic methods, and treatments related to diseases of the ear are extensively described.

Each of the book's 12 chapters ends with a summary of the essentials. The introductory historical review mentions a number of otologists who made important contributions to otology, but regrettably not the Nobel laureates Robert Barany and Georg von Bekesy, who were pioneers in the field of the physiology of hearing and balance.

The book will serve both residents in otology as a didactic tool and practicing otologists as a reference source of clinical and basic information. Controversial issues are presented in a balanced manner, which facilitates decision-making in complex clinical situations.

Providing a complete overview of otology was clearly the goal of the editors. However, the personal interests of contributors cannot always be avoided, so some topics are in the limelight, whereas others remain in the shadows. Motion sickness is not mentioned, and readers searching for information on vestibular damage caused by head and neck injuries will be disappointed. The pharmacotherapy of vertigo is described in a few sentences, and only a couple of drugs are mentioned, whereas vestibular compensation is extensively discussed for more than 10 pages. Nevertheless, the book provides a good understanding of current views of many aspects of otology.

Our shipping charge only covers international postage. Import duties vary widely by country and are additional. We thoroughly clean all books that we offer for sale and do all basic book-repairs ourselves. Basic repairs include repairing slanted bindings, applying additional glue to hinges that have become excessively loose, hinge-tape repairs for damaged hinges, minor binding split repairs, gluing small tears in exterior of covers, removal (as much as possible) of black marker marks to covers of ex-library books, removal of smaller non-permanent stickers, straightening of minor bowing to covers or spine, and applying jacket protectors to books with torn or fragile jackets or for especially pristine or collectible books. We do not do major binding repairs, and any un-repairable binding splits or general weakness in binding will be noted. Any significant repairs such as a hinge-tape repair will also be noted. These repairs do not usually change the underlying condition grade, but do make the book more presentable. Some books are beyond help and will be listed as "Fair/Acceptable" or "Poor". Our books are graded conservatively with library books never graded above "Good" and used books rarely graded above "Very Good". SHIPPING POLICY: For Domestic orders, we ship through the US Post Office and orders can be tracked at www.usps.com. Orders priced at $250 and above will require a signature upon delivery.
