A great study enhancer for Science topics dealing with meteorology and satellite remote sensing. This CD-ROM engages the user to learn science while having fun, experiencing science concepts rather than memorizing them. It will improve students test results and increase students' attention and involvement in science topics.
This CD-ROM has three pieces of software:
-Image Processing System
-Movie Maker
-Topographic Viewer
-With this software, the user can investigative projects in meteorology, oceanography and satellite remote sensing, track the latest hurricane or tornado, become a true meteorologist, and create their own movie from actual real-time weather data. These tools allow the user to:
-Select a series of images (satellite drawn weather data) from:
(a) the CD-ROM,
(b) the EarthStation Internet Campus, or
(c) from any external resources (i.e. - NASA, European Association, etc.)
-Crop the data to include a particular region of interest (i.e. the city that the student lives in)
-Create a movie from the data of the selected region
-Edit the movie
-Discover what systems are prevalent within a region
-Potentially predict future weather patterns
-Over 1500 real satellite images
-Several actual movies from the images
-Topography data - North American focus, less than 1 KM per pixel
-Open-ended projects
-Research into Meteorology, Geology, Earth Sciences
-Comprehensive text providing full explanation of science terms
-Full movies showcasing science phenomena within weather and environmental sciences
-Customized animations, teaching aspects of science difficult to explain through text and impossible to capture on film (e.g. remote sensing weather and oceanic phenomena)
Several dozen interactive exercises, science experiments, projects, and virtual labs, allowing students to learn through experimentation and analysis.
30,000 word glossary is a great test builder - assisting in creating clues and answers
Includes expansive lesson-planning applications
Includes free access to the EarthStation Internet Campus - a website that provides the user with daily-updated links to the top science websites and most current science news
Self-paced study - Users can learn at their own pace, through their preferred learning style, using their own skills to understand concepts.
The best value-for-dollar resource to increase students' interest and grades in meteorology and satellite remote sensing
