Lime green cloth covered boards as in the Viking true first edition. Looks the same except the title block on the spine is not filled in with a red background. States Viking on the title page. Only Copyright date and "printed in the United States" on the cr page. "bite" on 281 as in the true first edition. Jacket flap and spine state Grosset and Dunlap. I have been looking for a comparable book to this for about 10 years with no luck. A real mystery to me. Book and jacket has experienced light moisture at the top spine area evidenced by a bit of sticking of the paper from the jacket to the spine and a little wrinkling to the spine cloth. 298298 at top of jacket flap where price should be. Jacket has a chip missing at the top 1" of the front flap fold. A very unusual edition of East of Eden. Seller Inventory # 18644
