Explore a treasure trove of Moslem literature housed in an ancient Patna shrine of learning.
This book recounts how the work of a devoted collector built a world-renowned library, preserved through time and change, and how it still sparks wonder today.
In vivid detail, it traces the Khuda Baksh Library’s origins and its priceless holdings. You’ll meet the men who gathered, protected, and cherished these books, from royal patrons to wandering scholars. The pages celebrate the artistry of illumination, calligraphy, and bound volumes that survived centuries of fortune and misfortune.- A compelling history of the founder, Mohamed Baksh, and his son Khuda Baksh, who turned a personal passion into a public treasure.
- Descriptions of rare manuscripts and illustrated pages, from exquisite calligraphy to gold and lapis details.
- Stories of the Arab book-hunter, other emissaries, and the human effort behind the library’s growth.
- Reminders of Patna’s enduring cultural heritage and the library’s role as a guardian of learning.

Store description
