Review

Windows Into Whimsy: Jeffrey Schweitzer's 'Eccentric Gentlemen' by Michael Abatemarco. The Santa Fe New Mexican (Pasatiempo Magazine) 9/2014 "For the new body of work, titled The Biography of an Eccentric Gentleman, Schweitzer returns to a shadow-box presentation format, first used for his recent Into the Moonlight series, to tell his rambling tale. Each shadow box marks an episode in the adventures and misadventures of the Eccentric Gentleman, and each has a magical ability to draw you into the detailed storybook imagery, aided by accompanying text."- Michael Abatemarco "Schweitzer's simple, rhyming couplets, one for each shadow box, lend a Seussian lightheartedness to the series. The story, while potentially allegorical, is unencumbered by didacticism." - Michael Abatemarco "Schweitzer's layers add depth to each box, like windows offering glimpses of the wider world beyond." - Micheal Abatemarco "The shadow-box format allows for three or four layers of imagery with painted backdrops and cardboard cutouts entering the compositions from the wings, like the sets of a miniature theater." - Micheal Abatemarco
