Synopsis

The impact of various schemes like providing geographical positioning, subsidies and other concessions extended by the state and central government for coastal Karnataka fisher folk has been analysed using total factor productivity concept.The frontier production function (Cobb Douglas) revealed that among the four variables considered for the study, the labor has negative impact on fish catch for boat. Gini coefficient is also used to study reduction in inequality of income and assets, Lorenz curve for demonstration of equity, concurrent margin method for calculation of price spread,incremental value of output was computed. The study suggests impact of WTO policies on fishermen development of Karnataka.

Dr.R.Munireddy is working as Professor of Fisheries Economics at the College of Fisheries, Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University. He has received MA (Eco.) from University of Bangalore, PhD from University of Mysore and P.G diploma at the University of Hull, U.K. He has published many popular research papers and articles.
