The year 1912 was the turning point in the life of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Everything he had tried had met with until in 1911, with hopes of selling his stories to pulp magazines, he started to write. At the beginning of 1912 he was completely unknown as a writer; by the end of that same year he had already published the first stories in the Tarzan and Mars series and was well on his way to everlasting fame as a writer of adventure stories.
