A unique handwritten journal, registering wedding gifts received by an anonymous bride and groom, compiled by Edgar Sheppard. A very scarce handwritten journal by Edgar Sheppard.The majority of this journal comprises of a list of eminent persons of the era and gifts they gave to an unknown bride and groom upon a wedding at the Chapel Royal of St. James' Palace on the 24th December 1920.The first leaf reads 'Coventry, Beauchamp, Richard Harington, ., Selina L. Grace Harington, James S. Rankin, Ernest Lancaster, the above is a true copy of the marriage register of the Chapel Royal St James' Palace . introduced this twenty-fourth day of December in the Year of Our Good Lord one thousand nine hundred and twenty, Edgar Sheppard, Sub Dean'.The following leaves in the journal comprise of a list of gifts given by eminent figures of the day, with names include the Churchill family, including Randolph and Winston, and other figures such as the jurist George Sutherland, the cricketer Richard Selwyn Payne, and more.Gifts given include a paper knife, an antique silver spoon, a crystal Venetian vase, an antique Breton pendant, silver candlesticks, and more.Approximately 78 pages are written on in this unique work.Edgar Sheppard was a Canon of Windsor, and Sub-Dean of the Chapel Royal to King Edward VII.Stamp of Giulio Giannini Firenze to the rear paste down, a family run bookbinding business that has been running since 1856. In the original vellum binding, with a hand-painted decoration to the front board. Externally, a little discoloured with light marks, as is usual with a vellum binding. Rear board is a little cocked. Ribbon ties are present but worn. Minor bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Good.
