Who's There?, a very scarce children's picture book of verse about getting ready for Father Christmas, written by children's author Eric Vredenburg, illustrated by Edith Taylor. Published by Raphael Tuck and Sons in c.1896. No institutional copies are available of this work. Part of the Untearable Linen series.In the publisher's original pictorial paper boards, with numerous in-text colour and monochrome illustrations throughout.Vredenburg regularly wrote for Raphael Tucker and Sons, including Tinker Tailor stories and Curly Heads and Long Legs among many other works. Tucker and Sons were the world's largest postcard publisher as well as being a children's publisher, with their works particularly booming during the 1890s, when this work was published.During the Blitz, their headquarters in London was destroyed, leading to many of their original works being lost. In the publisher's original pictorial paper boards. Externally, smart, with with the odd small mark to the rear board. Signs of edgewear, with rubbing to the extremities, heavier to the spine with signs of wear. End papers are generally bright and clean with minor browning and slight age toning. Gift inscription to top of front pastedown. Internally, central leaves are loose from paper boards. Pages are generally bright and clean, with slight age toning and the odd small sign of browning. Good.
