Educational Environments, No. 1

Considering the pivotal role science, technology and higher learning have played during the 20th century, it's little wonder that education is such a vital issue. Staying ahead in the information age may require lifetime learning for children and adults alike. This is the mission of Educational Environments — to present examples of the country's most innovative new educational facilities to decision makers developing educational facilities for the years to come.

Today's learning is not restricted to elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities. With new philosophies of learning, evolving information technologies and innovative design strategies leading the way, education is also flourishing in such venues as libraries, museums, corporate training centers, convention centers and daycare centers. All these building types enrich the scope of this 9Óx12Ó, 284-page book with over 500 full-color photos.

Visited are such public facilities as Denver's Invesco Field; mixed-use urban developments such as Millennium Place in Boston, and the Shops at North Bridge in Chicago; resort communities such as Martinique on the Alabama coast and River Run in the Colorado Rockies. Current community planning is exemplified in revitalization plans for Joliet, Illinois, and Jupiter, Florida, and in new communities such as Alameda Point in California. Looking abroad, you will examine the Manchester Regional Center in England, and audacious plans for the Beijing Olympics. .
