She develops a clear picture of Hubble's drive to obtain the education necessary to achieve his goal of becoming an astronomer (winning a scholarship to the University of Chicago and then attending Oxford as a Rhodes scholar), his genius, and his unrelenting pursuit for an understanding of the nature of the universe. Also included are brief explanations of Hubble's major scientific discoveries on the structure, size, and evolution of the Milky Way and other galaxies. There is a good balance between the presentation of the scientist's personal life (including difficulties he had with coworkers) and his achievements. Good-quality black-and-white photos appear throughout. A highly readable biography that's on a lower reading level than Mary Virginia Fox's Edwin Hubble (Watts, 1997).
