The Effect of Storyboard Visuals on ESL Reading Recall: A Quantitative Study

This book explores the effect of storytelling storyboard visuals on ESL reading recall by reviewing, interpreting, and conducting research in language learning, second language reading recall, and interactions between visual and verbal components. It addresses issues such as standardization of the value levels of recall units and implementation of alternative methods of scoring immediate recall protocols. It also discovers some interesting language and visual features that affect reading recall in particular experimental contexts. Furthermore, this book offers a fresh new look at use of storytelling storyboard visuals in ESL reading research and development. It also anticipates effective study of readers¿ visual perception capacity and use of computer animation in ESL reading research and development.

Shuozhao Hou received his Ph.D. in ESL and M.S in Computer Graphics Technology from Purdue University, and is currently working there as a postdoc fellow.
