More wonderful, wacky wild things to make from egg cartons!
Reviews:
Grade 3-8-- In this companion volume to Egg-Carton Zoo (Oxford, 1986), the authors present 14 birds and animals that can be made from styrofoam egg cartons. The required supplies are minimal: egg cartons, curved nail scissors, a fine-tip marker, nail file, and coloring agents such as spices and instant coffee. A brief description of the process of drawing, cutting out, shaping, and decorating the animals is followed by two to four excellent photographs demonstrating the cutting out process for each creature. One photograph shows the finished product. New to this second volume are suggested uses for the completed animals, such as in making jewelry, mobiles, and prints. Although the instructions in this volume are clearer, safer, easier, and more extensive than those in the earlier book, they are still minimal, and much is left to readers' ingenuity. The animals featured are beautiful and amazingly naturalistic in appearance, but the introduction hints that they are not as easy to create as they look. Haas and Blohm are artists, and readers will need considerable artistic and manipulative skills to approximate their results. Of the many egg - carton craft books available, these are uniquely artistic in their appreciative expression of natural shapes. --Cynthia Bishop, Onondaga County Public Library, Syracuse, NY
