Having finally caught up with overdue entries and reviews, the series here moves from multi-year to single-year volumes, which are projected to continue into the foreseeable future. The entries are presented in sections on printing and bibliographical studies; history, social, and economic studies; philosophy, science, and religion; fine arts; foreign literatures and languages; and British and American literatures. The final two sections are new, responding to changes in academic research. Each section has its own editor, which may account for the wide variation in annotations, from none through a sentence and a short paragraph to an entire page. Only authors are indexed.
