Electrical Machines: Theory and Applications

A text covering the theory of operation and application of a wide variety of electrical machines. The text begins with a review of ac circuit fundamentals before launching into material on each of the machines. Included is information on single- and three-phase transformers, dc motors and generators, and single- and three-phase induction motors, synchronous motors, and synchronous generators (alternators). Also covered are specialty motors such as the universal ac motor, brushless dc motor, and stepper motor. The text concludes with methods to start, stop, and control the speed of each type of motor.
This text is intended for use by community college and university-level engineering technology programs.
Reader should have a thorough understanding of fundamental ac and dc circuits, electronic devices (including thyristors), and a knowledge of college algebra and trigonometry, complex algebra, and phasor mathematics. Although a knowledge of calculus will enhance understanding of the material, it is not required.
