An Elementary Treatise on the Dynamics of a Particle and of Rigid Bodies

The book defines and explains the uniplanar motion of particles of both constant mass and also of varying mass. It also discusses two dimensional motion of rigid bodies in cartesian and polar coordinates using differential and integral calculus and provides thorough understanding of dynamics of a particle and of rigid bodies for degree courses of mathematics, science and engineering. The author, a well known mathematician, has used his mathematical acumen in the explanation of concepts and picking examples and exercises to provide sound logical grounding to students. It is an essential book for science and engineering students to learn and master the fundamentals of the covered topics.

S L Loney, MA (18601939) was Professor of Mathematics at the Royal Holloway College, Egham Surrey, London, UK and a fellow of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, UK. Loney was educated at Maidstone Grammar School, in Tonbridge and at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, UK, where he graduated as 3rd Wrangler in 1882. He has authored numerous books on Mathematics which are widely in use. This book still happens to be the only reference book on the subject used across various universities.
