The Elements of the Differential Calculus: Comprehending the General Theory of Curve Surfaces, and of Curves of Double Curvature; Intended for the Use . in Schools and Universities (Classic Reprint)

Master the fundamentals of differential calculus with a clear, student‑friendly guide.

This edition focuses on foundations, limits, and the careful use of infinitesimals to build understanding, aiming to remove common gaps and inconsistencies in early study.

Designed for mathematical students in schools and universities, the book presents core concepts in a practical sequence. It explains the notation, develops the ideas of tangents and curvature, and traces the evolution of key theorems through worked examples and thoughtful discussion.

• Foundational treatment of limits and differentials as the true quantities, not their symbols
• Step‑by‑step development of functions and their derivatives, including multiple variables
• Insights into theorems, their conditions, and common pitfalls in early calculus
• Guidance that connects classic methods with modern analytical thinking

Ideal for readers who want a rigorous, accessible path through the essential parts of the differential calculus.
