Elements of Nuclear Theory

Written for graduate and postgraduate students opting for nuclear physics, research beginners may also find it useful. It aims at giving in pedagogue way a conceptual framework to understand nuclear properties. In the recent years, the emphasis in nuclear physics has shifted to higher energies, bringing about paradigm shift in our understanding of nuclear phenomena occurring at all sites of the universe. Gradual recognition of the basic complexity of nuclear force over the years, the evolution of nuclear theory in explaining data emerging from the new generation of accelerators coupled with the high resolution detector facilities, and opportunities of using ideas taken from particle physics, have provided the impetus for restructuring the course contents. Large-scale experiments through international collaborations are quickly changing the field of nuclear physics.
