Red embossed publisher's cloth, ruling in blind, gilt lettering front cover & spine (minor spotting, slight scuffing), still VG copy. First revised edition, of this first comprehensive study of elevator technology, more than doubling the content, illustrations, and material of the much smaller 1916 edition. Jallings (1847-1935) was a pioneer in Vertical Transportation technology, and has included here substantial sections on hand-power elevators, belt-power elevators, worm and gear, steam elevators, hydraulic elevators, the history of electric elevators, and more. Also included are materials on elevator car signal devices, safety devices, and more. Jallings worked as machinist, mechanical engineer, technician, and salesman for the Charles H. Mitchell Co., J.W. Reedy, Warsaw Elevators, and later Kaestner & Hecht provided him with key technical knowledge for this work aiding operators, architects, engineers, and contractors during the early decades of skyscrapers, and tall buildings in need of elevators.
