When your application transitions from a cozy local development sandbox to handling thousands of concurrent real-time transactions under intense production pressure, traditional software architecture patterns fail. In the world of high-velocity backend engineering, a single unindexed database query, an unthrottled tracing loop, or an unmanaged process mailbox can instantly trigger cascading node failures, exhaust host memory, and knock your entire platform offline.
Elixir OTP in Production: The Patterns, Anti-Patterns, and Performance Secrets is the definitive, production-hardened guide to engineering resilient, high-throughput systems on the BEAM virtual machine. Moving past basic syntax guides and textbook theories, this book exposes the hidden execution-context mechanics that separate fragile setups from self-healing, enterprise-grade clusters.
Through highly detailed code laboratories, deep architectural deconstructions, and real-world system recovery case studies, you will learn how to:
- Eliminate Memory Exhaustion: Master Ecto repository streams and database cursors to process multi-million-row datasets smoothly on constrained hardware without spiking your RAM footprint.
- Diagnose Pool Starvation: Detect internal checkout queue backups using low-level telemetry metrics before they trip your system circuit breakers and cause cascading microservice deadlocks.
- Isolate Fault Hierarchies: Implement non-blocking asynchronous startup boundaries, programmatic release tasks, and ironclad supervisor restart configurations to keep your node state safe from toxic data packets.
- Secure Production Observability: Leverage the ultimate performance secret of rate-limited :recon_trace and safe multi-layered Phoenix.LiveDashboard setups to trace live memory values without impacting active traffic.
- Scale Horizontally Natively: Build self-healing cluster meshes with libcluster and automate node fencing sentinels to completely eliminate the split-brain data pollution caused by cloud network netsplits.
Stop rewriting your backend infrastructure every time your market traffic spikes. Stop flying blind during live platform degradations. Transform your code into a self-regulating digital immune system that thrives under load, isolates exceptions on the spot, and maintains flat operational signatures under peak enterprise volume.
Don't wait for your next high-volume traffic surge to expose hidden vulnerabilities in your backend layout. Master the deep operational patterns of the BEAM virtual machine, bulletproof your architecture against global synchronous failures, and build systems that literally never crash. Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
