When young hunter Coral sets out on a horseback elk hunt with her dad, she gets a bigger adventure than she bargained for in this chapter book for ages 8–11.

For twelve-year-old Coral, having divorced parents means only getting to see her dad a few times each year. So when he invites her on a guided elk hunt—on horseback—in the Colorado mountains over fall break, Coral is thrilled. She's sure that this will be the adventure of a lifetime—and great bonding time with her father—even if she is nervous around horses. The hunt is fun, but soon things start to unravel. Coral struggles to find her confidence and feels strangely distant from her dad, especially when he surprises her with some big news. When a huge storm blows in, turning the mountain slippery and treacherous, Coral realizes she must overcome her fears and feelings of resentment to make it back down the mountain to safety.

Monica Roe grew up in a tiny farming town and spent her childhood holed up in a corner of the local library, where she was once almost locked in at closing time. (She saw this as a huge win; the librarian disagreed). Monica has spent more than a decade as a physical therapy provider for remote, off-road communities throughout rural Alaska. When not commuting to work on bush planes, Monica studies public health at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She and her family spend summers at their apiary in South Carolina and provide local educational programs about pollinators and beekeeping.

Gregor Forster, studied scientific illustration at the Zurich University of Arts in Switzerland. After finishing his studies in 2015 he started illustrating fiction and nonfiction picture books, educational books, and advertisements. When illustrating children's books, Gregor loves to research new topics and learn about the world the story takes place in. He loves to entertain, educate, and amaze children as much as adults with his illustrations. When Gregor isn't drawing or painting, he might be freediving somewhere in cold Swiss lakes.
