Vintage 1983 2nd Printing For a Prairie boy the mountains were endlessly fascinating: he acquainted himself with the wide variety of wildlife - moose, mule deer, caribou, grizzly, black bear and cougar to name a few, and with the tall timber - the mighty Douglas Fir and the Cedar. He also discovered alplands at the very peaks of mountains where on a sunny warm day with a slight breeze drifting over them he determined that this beautiful country would be his life. The final confirmation came when, in 1935, he assisted a friend trial a string of pack horses from Jasper to McBride. After the five-day he decided that working with a pack outfit was for him.
