Young widower John Gimmerick takes his daughter, Seren, to visit his childhood home in a deeply troubled ex-mining village on the northeast coast of England.

Quiet nostalgia soon gives way to dark memories when Seren speaks of a ghostly visitor who materialises from the shadows of her room each night.

Reclusive John now finds the line between reality and his nightmares blurring. The past is dragging him into an inescapable state of madness. But much, much worse than that, it wants to devour his little girl’s soul and steal her away into the insidious darkness in which it dwells.
