Emerging Odisha - Problems and Prospects

This Emerging Problems and Prospects is the second book in the series of ‘Contemporary Realities and Vision’. This book represents the unprecedented mismatch between resourcefulness and backwardness that characterise the developmental process of Odisha – a state endowed with natural bounties in the shape of mineral deposits, forests, rivers and a long coastline of 482 kms. A land whose serene beauty is divine, mineral deposits are in abundance, hydropower potentials are massive has been languishing behind developmental parameters since independence. This volume with collection of several research chapters covering various areas, deals with socio-economic, political, health and environmental issues of the state, contributed by eminent scholars, academician and administrators from Odisha, India and abroad. It focuses on the inherent potential of the state in different spheres and dwells on issues of energy, forest, industrial development, women empowerment, upliftment of the marginalized, waste land management, eco-farming, agriculture, tourism, handicraft, education, migration, health management, MGNREGS, human rights or disaster management. We sincerely believe that the volume would make its humble contribution to enriching awareness about the state and facilitate its socio-economic development. Students, academicians, researchers, policy makers, and entrepreneurs would be enormously benefited by the volume.
