This story makes an effort to make friends with physics and science as applied to the fictional vampire. Through a number of voices in the story plausible and believable explanations of their origin, power, and relative mortality of those that live in that world. “Emperor…” is also more than a vampire tale, the threads that comprise its tapestry reflect a story about loneliness, lost love and love yet to come. It is a mystery story that introduces a much broader theme of nefarious mischief afoot. It is also witnesses to how sophisticated 21st century people, people minding their own business are compelled to accept the fact that vampires exist. As they go forward it details the challenges they experience in agreeing to protect the secret of their existence from becoming public knowledge, all the while tracking down and destroying the creatures wherever they turn up.

About the Author

Writing as Jack Dunbar, Eric Shoemaker grew up studied ancient maps, maps that depicted lost civilizations, lost empires and those who lived during each of their heydays. His interest in history and the story possibilities the historical and mythical events depicted in those maps present to fiction writing and have melded into the themes that run through The Emperor of Carysfort Reef: Resurrection. His careers in the U.S. Army, in law enforcement, and ultimately in the U.S. Intelligence Community each provided a rich school for his writing. He has lived or spent a great deal of time in many of the places depicted in this story. His favorite places in the Florida Keys and Scotland provide a rich stage for the journey his characters make in this book. He splits his time between his home in Charles County, Maryland near Washington, D.C. Florida Keys, and the family log house in the Endless Mountain region of Pennsylvania.
