The Emperor's Codes: Bletchley Park's role in breaking Japan's secret cyphers: Bletchley Park's Role in Breaking Japan's Secret Ciphers

Although famous for breaking the Nazis' Enigma code, the teams at Bletchley Park were also engaged in breaking the codes of all Germany's allies, and among them the machine ciphers of Japan. Drawing on files that were only recently declassified, Michael Smith tells the engrossing story of the British and Australian cryptographers - John Tiltman, Eric Nave and Hugh Foss - who broke the Japanese diplomatic and military codes.

The Emperor's Codes moves across the world from Bletchley Park to Pearl Harbor; from Singapore to Colombo; and from Mombasa to Melbourne, describing the extraordinary exploits of the British codebreakers during the Second World War -- all fascinating, astonishing and amazing.

Where previous books have all emphasized the roles played by the American codebreakers this is the first full account of the critical role played by Bletchley Park and it's worldwide outposts. Using the memories of those at the forefront of the battle, Michael Smith reveals a gripping story.
