Enchanted Rock Red is a murder mystery set at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area in Llano County, Texas. The Park Police Officer discovers the body of a Parks and Wildlife Commissioner in a remote place in the park, the bullet which killed him fired from a handgun from the 1800's. The story is fiction but the place is real.

From the Author
I write fictional stories about real people and places. As a self-employed professional who is not chained to a desk, I have time to walk and write, and those are what I enjoy most. I have lived lots of places, both foreign and domestic, was in my youth a military aviator, and have a broad range of experiences to bring to my stories. This story came out of many, many walks at Enchanted Rock during 2011, and the opening scene from a visit in February. Sometimes characters insterted themselves in the story without my permission, something I can't explain. I have never worked in law enforcement but was a small town mayor for a while, a position which required a lot of involvement with peace officers, and had help from friends in that profession. They will say that the protagonist is not a 'real' cop, and that is true. Texas Parks and Wildlife Park Police Officers live in a different world than big city police officers. They have the luxury of focusing on public safety, and dignity, and good manners, and seldom have to deal with violence or serious crime. As Maurice says, his job is to protect the people from the resource, protect the resource from the people, and protect the people from each other.
This is not Great American Novel', but I hope a fun story, well told.
