Adelaide Cummings' late in life request as expressed in her poem Parting Gift: “Yes, the hour is growing late, and now that I have reached 98, I do not hesitate to state, I don’t expect to procreate. But hear demands I make of fate: “Before I reach the Pearly Gate, bestow upon me one last playmate. How my enjoyment would inflate, were he to prove a reprobate. He can speak in tongues or brogue, this matters not. Just make him rogue!”
Adelaide Cummings' view of prose as expressed in her poem Cause For Wonder: “Who knows why they print this turgid prose. I, who do not hesitate to tread on toes, rate New Yorker “poetry” as I do the Emperor’s clothes.”
Adelaide Cummings' philosophy about living life as expressed in her poem Poetic Leaps: “I’d so much rather take a fall, than not to try to fly at all.”

About the Author
With her varied, interesting and busy life, Adelaide Cummings did not take up poetry full time until she was in her eighties. She has written and published 7 books of poetry in the last 10 years. She credits her love of and prodigious production of poetry as a key to staying so sharp and active. Her “youthful spirit” epitomized by the following story: Already fluent in French, she took up Italian at age 89. Her Italian teacher asked her why she was taking up a new language at such a late age. She replied, “because, I want to find an Italian lover!” Adelaide Cummings is not only an excellent poet, but she is a great role model for everybody!
