Synopsis
A guide to more than one thousand beasts, specters, and other monsters, from the Bible's Leviathan to Hollywood's Alien, arranged alphabetically and cross-referenced by subject
From Library Journal
A similarly formatted follow-up to his successful "fantasy" encyclopedias, The Encyclopedia of Supervillains (LJ 10/15/87) and The Encyclopedia of Superheroes. Listed are more than 1000 nasty things, drawn from mythology, TV shows, movies, comic books, even toys, with information on each (like what it is: robot, slime, giant bug, etc.), a "biography," and personal data. Although the volume is unnervingly complete, there are omissions: the Gamma People, Brainiac, and a couple of critters from The Outer Limits . This is useful, vital stuff for the fan and a lot of fun to read (I never knew Caltiki was a female giant amoeba.)-- David Bartholomew, NYPL
