Engaging Your Team: Lessons for Servant Leadership
David Zanca’s Lessons Learned on a Journey to Servant Leadership
In a world of polarization, incivility, and questionable leadership values, David Zanca offers a model of leadership based on proven servant leader examples drawn from the Bible, historical figures, current events, and both personal and professional experiences.
These experiences are framed as a set of lessons for the next generation of leaders, regardless of their industry or seniority. Students, professionals, managers, parents, and executives can all benefit from the insightful lessons, examples, and takeaways found within this book.
True to the calling of a servant leader, all the profits from the sale of this book will be donated to charities that either serve those less fortunate or that foster the development of future leaders.
Easy-to-apply lessons for leaders and managers at all stages of life and career
--ABOUT THE AUTHOR: David Zanca has over thirty-four years of experience in information technology, having served the majority of his career at FedEx. He served as the IT executive responsible for enabling FedEx to be the leader in ecommerce delivery technologies. What David is perhaps most remembered for during his years at FedEx is his leadership style where team members were respected and valued, that he was accessible and engaged in the day-to-day activities of the organization, and that integrity was critical.
Prior to joining FedEx, David worked eleven years with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). He holds an MBA from Emory University and a bachelor’s degree from Duke University. He holds multiple professional certifications. David has served in positions of lay leader, trustee, and elder at churches where he and his family have belonged.
David and his wife, Ginny, have been married for over thirty-five years and have two children. His interests begin with family activities and include travel, hiking, college basketball, golf, running, and reading non-fiction.

Review
Engaging Your Team] is a strong and practical guide for all leaders, regardless of their years of experience. It is particularly helpful in a mentoring, training, or teaching situation.
—Chris Hjelm, CIO at Kroger Co.
David’s book is a practical guide on how to be a thoughtful, intentional, and impactful servant leader.
—Lynn Ballinger, CSC, Ballinger Executive Coaching
The context and stories in this book capture the power that a caring, common sense leader, like David, has on an organization’s productivity and quality of life, all congruent to four principles (leadership matters, organization structure matters, performance management matters, and culture matters). I’ve personally worked around David for almost a decade at FedEx, and he has now captured in words exactly how he managed himself, his projects, his teams, and his peers, regardless of how difficult the situation. He has made tangible in the book what appeared to be intangible.
—Charlie Feld, Feld Group
