The text mainly focuses on solving the intricacies of orthographic projection, the very basis of all engineering drawings, and therefore, other projection systems have not been discussed. The salient features of the text are:

Various planes of projection considered in orthographic projection have been presented in such a manner that they can be easily visualized which is essential in solving the problems using orthographic projection.

Rules for obtaining projections have been derived from the presented theory behind them, and have been used wherever needed to make the readers understand the steps involved in solving a particular problem.

All different options available to solve a particular problem have been discussed as far as possible.

The illustrative examples along with typical illustrative examples make the subject clearer.

Multicolour illustrations using specific colours for specific features throughout the book make the readers understand the illustrations very clearly and easily.

Text utilizes its own notations and abbreviations which avoid repeated use of long terms.

Dr. A M Chandra is a former Professor of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He graduated in Civil Engineering in 1969, completed post graduation in Advanced Surveying and Photogrammetry in 1971, and obtained Doctoral degree in Physical Geodesy in 1984, all from the then University of Roorkee, presently Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. Dr. Chandra joined the Geomatics Engineering Section of Civil Engineering Department, University of Roorkee in 1975 after serving for brief periods as Associate Lecturer at SVRCET, Surat and subsequently, as Assistant Engineer in RES, Uttar Pradesh, and remained with the IIT, Roorkee till 2005 when he took voluntary retirement. He has also served at University of Salahaddin, Iraq (1988 89) and Arba Minch University, Ethiopia (2002 04) under UNDP sponsorship. Presently he is Professor of Civil Engineering, Arba Minch University, Ethiopia. At IIT, Roorkee, Dr. Chandra has been engaged in teaching, research, and consultancy. Dr. Chandra has published several research papers in national and international journals and conference proceedings, and has authored six books of international repute. He has been honoured with national awards for his works in his field. Dr. Chandra has been to Austria and attended an international course on Mathematical and Numerical Methods in Physical Geodesy.
