Views on the Colorado River. James Fennimore (1849-1941) was born in London, England. He moved with his family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when he was in his teens. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Salt Lake City, where Fennimore became employed at Savage and Ottinger, the city's most successful photography studio. Fennimore made a profound impression on Major John Wesley Powell, leading Powell to invite him to replace E. O. Beaman and join his 1872 expedition. The goal of the expedition was to map the route along the Grand Canyon and photograph the views. Seller Inventory # 66564
