Shebbaare was a controversial political writer who was imprisoned, but then elevated to a position with a royal pension. This did not meet with Maccgreggot s approval. The epistle (pages 5-18) is in iambic pentameter couplets. The imitation of Horace has the Horace text (in Latin) on the versos, facing the imitation.
