from Sporting Magazine, Volume 88; 4 1/2" X 7 1/2"; 1 pages; from Sporting Magazine, Volume 88, page 192, 1836. Image measures about 4 1/2" x 7 1/2" (14" x 11" matted). Matted in white stock with clear mylar. T.S. Engleheart, sculptor, published by Pittman, Warwick Square, London. "Equestrian Group substituted for the Ascot Gold Cup, won by His Lordship's Touchstone, at the present meeting; to which we have added the Winners of the Cup since 1828, and the Winner's of the King's Plates from their first establishment. This splendid trophy is supposed to represent two ancient Romans taming a Wild Horse, the idea and attitude of the figures taken from the admired group of the Farnese Bull at Naples, the Horse being substituted in lieu of the Bull. In adding that this beautiful Piece of Plate has been under the surveillance of Messrs. Garrard, it is unnecessary to speak of the classic taste displayed in its manufacture.".
