Instead, restricted stock awards, restricted stock units, phantom stock, stock appreciation rights (SARs), performance awards, and/or direct stock purchases are an essential part of their compensation strategies. This book/CD combination (formerly titled Beyond Stock Options) is an essential toolkit for everyone who needs to research or implement such plans. The book includes eight chapters on what the plan alternatives are, how they work, how to combine them, and the legal and accounting issues they raise. The authors include leading authorities from law firms, Deloitte & Touche, NASPP, and the NCEO. The book also includes a CD with set of model plan documents, most of them annotated, prepared by law firms. The plan documents are included in word processing format so you can easily edit and use them. In the 13th edition, chapters 1 through 7 have been revised and updated (as of late 2014) where needed. Chapter 8 did not require any changes. Additionally, every plan document included with the book was reviewed and then revised when necessary.

Barbara Baksa is the executive director of the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals (NASPP). Daniel Coleman is an associate partner with Aon Hewitt in Chicago, were he serves as the Midwest and Canadian market leader for the firm's equity-based compensation valuation practice. Daniel N. Janich is an officer of Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, P.C. in Chicago. David Johanson is a partner with Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP, with offices in Napa, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, California. Blair Jones is a managing principal at Semler Brossy Consulting Group, a compensation consulting firm. Kay Kemp is a professional advisor in the Employee Benefits, Compensation, Labor & Employment practice of McDermott Will & Emery LLP. Scott Rodrick is the director of publishing and information technology at the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO). Corey Rosen is the cofounder and former executive director of the NCEO. Martin Staubus is the executive director of the Beyster Institute at the Rady School of Management, University of California, San Diego, where he teaches in the MBA program and consults to a wide range of companies.
