Erwin Rommel was a commander of the German forces during World War II. He accomplished the Blitzkrieg method of warfare in Northern France on 1940 and became commander in the deserts of North Africa in ealry 1941, causing much trouble to the Allied Forces until defeated by Montgomery in the second battle of El Alamein, in 1942. He was dubbed "The Desert Fox" by the British and apparently was respected for his military leadership skills. This study provides a balanced assessment of his entire career from junior officer in the First World War through his achievements on the battlefields of Europe and North Africa between 1940-1944, before his ignominious end at the hands of the regime he served. 128 pages, indexed. 7.5 x 9.75 inches. 2004, Brasseys, London, UK.

This volume traces the full remarkable career of the small, wiry man who was to become the legendary 'Desert Fox' and shows how a mild, retiring youngster quickly became an amazingly successful operator with light forces in the First World War, then proved the perfect spearhead of the devastating 'blitzkrieg' strategy of the Germans against the Allies in the early years of the Second World War. He was then transfered to the deserts of North Africa where he was to cause such havoc to the British army, only stopped by the arrival of 'Monty'.
This thorough assessment marks Rommel as one of the finest military men of the 20th century. It also examines his faults, and covers the sad end to his life when he chose suicide ahead of a show trial after being accused of plotting to blow up Hitler.
