The most important second edition, including numerical data to support Malthus's thesis as presented in the first edition of 1798, but as he states, the book " .In its present shape, may be considered as a new work, and I should probably have published it as such, omitting the few parts of the former which I have retained, but that I wished it to form a whole of itself." This book was highly influential in the progress of thought in early nineteenth century Europe and his influence on social policy was considerable. Both Darwin and Wallace clearly acknowledge Malthus as a source of the idea of the struggle for existence. The text is exceptionally clear & clean, almost spotless. The front cover, the first page and title page have become detached from the main body of the book, which is in its original binding. Beneath the title on the spine is a small reserve with a tiny Royal coat of arms. More photographs are available.
