An Essay on the Statement "Humanity before Religion": Foundations and Analysis

In this essay the author carefully provides the reader with an analysis of the theological claim 'Humanity before Religiosity'

which was the subject of a series of talks and articles written by Habib Ali al-Jifri between 2012 and 2014 that led to vivid

debates concerning the validity and benefit such statement. The author commences with a concise summary of the main

arguments of the statement 'Humanity before Religiosity' and proceeds with a careful analysis of the main critiques against

the statement. Hamid aims to illustrate not only the invalidity of these arguments but also to reiterate the necessity of 'Humanity

before Religiosity' through a careful cursory reading of pivotal texts in the Islamic tradition.
