Item description from seller

A compact edition presenting Ralph Waldo Emerson's famous 1844 series of essays, which have long been admired for their clarity of thought on wide-ranging subjects from politics to art. This selection followed an earlier "First Series" which appeared in 1841. --- In full wood grain-look paper-covered boards decorated with oak leaves and backed in ribbed green cloth, with a tissue-guarded frontis photo of Emerson's New England home. An undated copy, but possibly published c.1890s-1910s. --- With mild rubbing to boards and a little dulling to spine gilding, else a well-preserved copy. Interior is clean and unmarked.; 24mo - 5 to 6 in. tall; iv, 223 pages.
