Biotechnology is a range of enabling technologies that will find significant applications in many industrial sectors. It is a technology in search of new applications and the main benefits lie under future. The applications of biotechnology are so broad that virtually every industry is using this technology. Developments are underway in areas as diverse as pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, textile, aquaculture, forestry, chemicals, household products, environmental cleanup, food processing and forensics to name a few. Biotechnology holds significant promises to the future but must be carefully regulated so that the maximum benefits are received with least risk. About The Dr. Sumedha Mehta Mohan, is an active and dedicated environmentalist and biotechnologist. She is working as a lecturer and scientist in Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University, Noida (UP). A Ph. D. in Environmental Botany form Hamdard University, Delhi, she has carried out deep research on various environmental management programes. She has authored a review on suspended particulate matter in a book of international acclaim “Environmental Causes and Consequences.” She has attended and actively participated in various workshops, seminars and symposiums at national level on issues concerned with environment and biotechnology.
