Essential Elements Jazz Play-Along - Jazz Standards: Rhythm Section

This rhythm section play-along songbook, featuring jazz standards by various composers and arranged by Michael Sweeney and Mike Steinel, is designed for developing jazz ensemble players building confidence in timing, groove, and improvisation. Focused on bass, piano, and drums, it provides a structured yet musical introduction to essential repertoire commonly used in jazz education and performance.

The collection includes 10 well-known jazz standards presented in clear notation tailored for rhythm section roles, making it suitable for players progressing at a consistent level. Each tune is supported by sample solos and practical improvisation hints, helping musicians understand phrasing, style, and interaction within an ensemble setting.

A professionally recorded audio CD provides both full performances and rhythm section-only tracks, along with tempo adjustment software for flexible, personalized practice. Players can develop timing and feel while working through real musical contexts that mirror rehearsal and performance situations.

Beyond simply playing notes, this collection helps musicians connect theory with practical application through a scale and chord correlation chart and a guide to jazz articulations.
