About the Authors:
Daniel L. Hartl is Higgins Professor of Biology at Harvard University, a Professor of Immunology and Infectious Diseases at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, and a Senior Associate Member of the Broad Institute of M.I.T. and Harvard. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He received his B.S. degree and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin and carried out postdoctoral research at the University of California at Berkeley. His research interests include molecular genetics, genomics, molecular evolution, and population genetics
Elizabeth W. Jones (late) was a Dr. Frederick A. Schwertz Distinguished Professor of Life Sciences, University Professor , and Head of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University. She published more than 80 papers and edited more than 20 books and monographs in genetics and cell biology. She was a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, has served as president of the Genetics Society of America, and was Editor-in-Chief of GENETICS. She was a member of the American Academy of Microbiology. Dr. Jones received her PhD from the University of Washington in Seattle. Her research interests included gene regulation and the genetic control of cellular form. Her last projects involved studying the function and assembly of organelles in the yeast of Saccharomyces.
