About the Author

Stephanie Brill is cofounder of Maia Midwifery and Preconception Services in Berkeley, Calif. Maia has achieved national recognition by helping thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered individuals create family. In addition, she is a former faculty instructor for the Midwifery Institute of California as well as a member of the California Association of Midwives and the Midwives' Alliance of North America. A lesbian mother of three, she is also the author of the acclaimed book The Queer Parent's Primer: A Lesbian and Gay Families' Guide to Navigating the Straight World.

Kim Toevs also cofounded Maia Midwifery and Preconception Services. She is a member of the California Association of Midwives and the Midwives' Alliance of North America. A former faculty member at the Midwifery Institute of California, Toevs is now pursuing her master of public health degree in community health education. She lives with her family in Oakland, Calif.
