Essentials of Golf by Abe Mitchell, published by Hodder and Stoughton in a sixteenth edition, first printed in this form in November 1937. This is a hardback with pale cloth boards, diagonal ribbed patterning, and the Hodder and Stoughton "H&S" device on the front cover, repeated on the spine. The spine carries the author's name and title in black lettering, along with the publisher's name at the foot. Inside, the title page bears a portrait photograph of Abe Mitchell along with a facsimile of his printed signature, and a note that the book was edited and arranged by J. Martin of Verulam Golf Club, St Albans. The front free endpaper carries a handwritten signature in ink, differing from the printed facsimile on the title page. The text pages show light toning with some scattered spotting, and the printed pages include photographic figures referenced in the text. The covers show some wear at the corners and edges, with a touch of fraying to the head of the spine. The boards remain firmly attached to the book.
